Max will always be in my heart. I go by Ambiance often and think of him. His smile and good natured soul always lifted my spirit. His stories always entertained my inner child.

Dear Bernie,
I am so sorry to hear about your father's passing.  I sadly lost touch with him many years ago and now hearing this news has brought back so many sweet memories of your parents' annual visits to Rockport MA.  I met them  on the beach the summer after giving birth to my first child in 1972.  We would see each other every summer for many years, even long after I moved away from Rockport.  Because it was pre computers and cell phones I would just guess when they would be in Rockport and head to Cape Hedge Beach in hopes of seeing them.  I almost always did.  Then we would make plans to have dinner together.  On one or more  of those occasions  I remember meeting you and thinking what wonderful parents you had.  I believe I spoke with him once or twice after your  mother died but then we lost contact.  Clearly it was my loss. 
What an absolutely lovely man your father was; he was always so kind and full of joy.   I was just drawn to him and I can imagine how great a loss this is for you.   You have my heartfelt condolences.

Dear Bernie and Andrea, our deepest condolences.  Very sad information. I arrived in Montreal in 1976 and I have known Max for almost 50 years. Max was such a wonderful person and a true friend. A well deserved, appreciated and respected honorary Finn. Rest in peace Max, I will miss your calls on my birthday.

Max was introduced to our family as my father‘s best friend. He certainly brought a lot of beautiful energy to my father, when our father was going through health challenges. I was honoured and happy to be by Max’s side when he was going through his. My father and Max used to laugh a lot at the fact that a Frenchman and a German had become best of friends. Laughter was something that seemed to come easily to Max, as well as his fascinating stories,  as he generously shared them both with so many. We will never forget you, Max. I thank you for your generous heart. 
May you be experiencing the best in joy that life after crossing the veil, has to offer. 
We will meet again.

Dear Bernie,

It is with great sadness we heard of your dad, our dear Max’s, passing. He was such a kind and generous soul who always had a smile and a story to tell.  He had a special fondness for our daughter Ashlee Oneill who had visited him in Rockport with my parents, Denise and Roger Matern,  when she was only 5 years old. Our daughter Ashlee passed away recently and we can only hope she was the angel sent there to greet him as he entered his eternal resting place. We will always remember him fondly and he will always have a special place as a part of the Matern family. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.

Bernie, please accept our deepest sympathies. Max was truly unique and a real blessing to be around. I am pleased to have gotten to know him. He will forever be fondly remembered. 🥲🥲🥲
