Renato Ricardo LARDIZABAL PE

On July 25, 2023, Renato Ricardo Lardizabal Pe (aka Reno/Rene) died peacefully in his sister’s home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 52 years old. He is survived by his siblings Gary, Liza, Anton, Wendy, and Lito and his beloved dog, Oakley.

Born in the Philippines, his family immigrated to Canada when he was 5 years old. Although proudly Canadian, he treasured his Filipino-Chinese heritage.

While others aimed for fame and fortune, Reno’s life is embodied by the many relationships that he forged, nurturing them with kindness, generosity, and loyalty, resulting into a tremendous outpouring of love and concern in the last stage of his life. His hulk-like work ethic and food service experience made a difference in Montreal’s restaurant and night life industry.

Reno was his childhood friends' honorary family member. They were by his side till the end. These extended families embodied what it means to be a true friend: treating him like a brother and son, counseling him whenever his larger-than-life nature ventured into “challenging situations.” Noteworthy was the love and constant presence of nephew-godson Carlo Pe-Greselin. Reno will be missed.

Rene's family and friends are deeply grateful to the medical teams of CLSC Rene Casein and Ville St. Laurent, NOVA home care and Mount Sinai’s Palliative Care for their unwavering and pragmatic support. It is through them that Rene's wish to stay out of hospitals and care facilities was made possible.

There will be visitation life on August 13th and 14th from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Côte Des Neiges Funeral Home. A Spiritual service will be held on August 14th at 5 pm which will be followed by a reception and silent auction of Reno's 7 collectible sneakers. All proceeds of the silent auction will be equally donated to the Mount Sinai Palliative Care Team and Nova Montreal Home Care. His ashes will be brought to Gasan, Marinduque (Philippines) where his parents and most of the Pes are interred.
