Son of the late Arthur Verrall and Evelyn Sneddon of Toronto, Ontario. Beloved husband of the late Marion Easun, and father of their six children, David (Sally), Tamarack, Paul (Donna), Norman (Monika), Michael (Caroline), and George Morin (Daniel), family which includes eight grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by his brother Arthur and sister Evelyn and is survived by his sister Dorothy.
Robert was an accomplished filmmaker from the early days of the National Film Board of Canada, beginning in 1945 at the age of 17. Through his long career he served as Head of Animation and Director of English Production. He was known and loved for his talent, his belief in the power of film, his encouragement of film makers and above all his love of life and belief in people, that served as inspiration to all who knew him.
Having lived through the second world war in his youth, his ardent wish his entire life was that there be global peace. He loved being a father, uncle, grandfather, greatgrandfather and widely, a friend. One of his greatest joys was to discover the loving community of St James United Church through which he
has developed deep and lasting friendships. His love of people, of discussion and debate, of delving into
philosophy and the possibilities of humanity as a whole were deeply rooted in who he was and what gave him a joy of life, family and his many friends. His family is grateful to the staff of the Royal Victoria
Hospital who supported Robert’s lively and celebratory stay for palliative care, the wonderful home care team at CLSC Saint-Louis du Parc and the very diligent Pharmacy at 1 rue Mont-Royal East.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. James United Church, 463 Ste. Catherine West on Saturday, February 8 at 11a.m.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to the St. James United Church, the Montreal City Mission or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
