Sun Hip Chan

Sun Hip 'Warly' Chan, age 81,of Brossard, Quebec passed away on December 29, 2022.

Sun Hip was born in Kwantung China on July 15, 1941 to parents King Wood Chan (deceased) and Yuet Ngor Lee (deceased).

In the late 1960's, with a 1st Year Mechanical Engineering certificate, Sun Hip immigrated from Hong Kong to Montreal, Quebec joining his elder sister and starting his new life in Canada.

In Jan 1968, Sun Hip married Ruth 'Betty' Chun Yin Wong.

In Quebec, he worked several jobs in numerous restaurants over the years until finally partnering with his brother-in-law and a friend to purchase their first restaurant, Restaurant Allen Wu in Trois-Rivieres.

A few years after the sale of that restaurant, Sun Hip, his brothers-in-law and a friend started the chain Le Buffet Maison Kirin, which at one point had 5 locations.

After he sold his shares of the business, he retired and travelled with his spouse Ruth until her death at age 65 in December of 2012.

Sun Hip is survived by his children Eleanor Ashley Chan, Harvey Chan, his daughter in law Marie Josee De la Cruz, numerous siblings, nieces and nephews both here and in Hong Kong.

The visitation will be held at Centre Funeraire Cote des Neiges, 4925 Ch de la Cote on Tuesday January 10, 2023 from 9am to 2pm followed by the burial at Notre Dames de Neiges Cemetery.

Funeral reception will be held on Tuesday January 10 at 5pm at Ruby Rouge Restaurant on 1008 Clark St in Montréal Chinatown.
