" It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Violeta Lara Riñón, born in the Philippines, at the age of 83 years in Montreal, Canada.
A loving and devoted mother and abuela, she is survived by her son John Riñón (Débora Mas), and grandchildren: Anaïs, Gabriel, and Rafael. Predeceased by her twin sister Encarnación Rose Riñón (Gil Nobleza), she will be equally grieved by her siblings Teresa Lucas, Juan and Amelia (née Sevilleja) Riñón, Ester Nollora, Consol Gonzales, and Cleo Riñón, 11 cherished nieces and nephews, extended family and close friends in Canada, the United States, and the Philippines.
Violeta was a person of extraordinary character. Known for her gracious hospitality, her kindness and compassion were evident to anyone who knew her.
Her sprit of service touched many in the community. Her dedicated involvement in her church (Onward Gospel Church), and other various associations (Nurses Christian Fellowship, The Filipino Nurses Association of Quebec, Filipino Association of Montreal and Suburbs, and the Verdun Horticultural Society) are a testament to her commitment and love for the people in her community.
The family is immensely grateful for the wonderful care and attention Violeta received from all the Doctors, nurses, and staff at Foyer Valiquette; CHSLD VIGI Queen Elizabeth, and at the MNI and JGH over the course of the last two and a half years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Nurses Christian Fellowship (NCF) or Montreal Children's Hospital, where Violeta worked as a nurse for 30 years. "
Visitation will be held on January 10, 3-8 pm and on January 11, 9-10:30 am
Service will be held on January 11 at 10:30 am. Reception following."
