George E Strosser

George Strosser (1/8/1923-9/30/2015) beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, -in law, neighbor, fellow worker and friend passed away Wednesday, 3 months shy of his 93rd birthday. George (born in Ossining hospital) was a life long resident of the town of Cortlandt; residing in Buchanan 70 years; attended Peekskill high school, where he excelled in football, co captained the 1940 team; was going to play for Manhattan college, when his father, Alfred Strosser (a prior light weight boxer from the Lancaster Pa, area) died suddenly. His mother, Florence Styles's from Astoria Queens; graduated Hunter College. George married the late Inza Gilman of Buchanan in 1942 (who pre-deceased him by 32 years, 9 months). He volunteered for the WWII draft and was inducted in the United States Army where he served at West Point; teaching enlisted men and cadets to drive transport vehicles. George and Inza had two children, Susan Strosser (Keon), Bridgeport Ct. and Kim Strosser, Sunnyside Queens. Dividing his time between work, family and building his own home (initially), when the war ended. George was Lead Man, working shift work at Fleishmans, Standard Brands for 36 years, where he held positions as president and secretary of the Yeast Makers Local Union. He worked week ends (1 and 1/2 days) ~57 years for Curran and Rileys-Cole's-Buchanan Hardware store. Part time days ~10 years, as a Laborer, for Frank Santulli (dec.) Construction, (while working 2nd and 3rd shifts); 11 years for Hendrick Hudson High School District, as a custodian (upon retiring); and 3 years for Combined Books, waiting to get on with the school. As exhausting as it may sound; on waking George (taking a cat nap), wanting him to do something, he'd get right up, without complaint, and simply say ok. George enjoyed having picnics for family and friends. Helping his wife in her hobby, planting the whole front yard with her perennials; flowers in the Spring, rotating with a vegetable garden; watching Sports on TV; but more, his grandson, Patrick Keon (Longmont Co.) pitching in baseball games (George attending, most all); or visiting with his granddaughter and her daughters, Mrs. Delilah Keon-Heyman (Trumbull, Ct.). In later years George would help his then dec. wife's elderly widowed aunt and sister; taking them places, doing work around their homes. Also his son-in laws. George's son,.Kim, living home 10 years after his mother' passing, keeping George company; upon moving, for years took George to the Best Restaurants in NYC (visiting sites after). His devoted daughter' Susan Strosser's loving care these last 14 years was a comfort to George. Visiting faithfully, doing everything for her father; (as he use to, for her). "He was the best father". His very good friend Wayne visiting, standing by him throughout George's long illness .Helping him, us. George very much enjoyed visiting with his son; his granddaughter's holiday family dinners, with all his great granddaughters; seeing his grandson when he came in; and his niece Gioia's letters in the VA.
