Don was born in Tarrytown, NY, and raised his family in Briarcliff Manor before later settling in Buchanan. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and worked for 35 years with the New York City Transit Authority.
Running was one of Don's lifelong passions. He completed numerous marathons and ultramarathons and was a longtime member of the Taconic Road Runners Club. He always looked forward to his Saturday visits with family and often traveled to Florida and Prince Edward Island to see loved ones. In quieter moments, Don could often be found reading, playing video games, and listening to classical music.
He was the son of the late Albert and Orise Villeneuve and the stepson of Germaine Villeneuve. He was also predeceased by his beloved partner, Lynn Cockin.
Above all, Don was devoted to his family. He is survived by his children, Donald Villeneuve (Karin) of New Canaan, CT, Diana Villeneuve of Stratford, PEI, and Gail King Villeneuve (Kirsty) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and his cherished grandchildren, Larra, Dylan, Reese, Daniel, and Justin; and his great-grandchildren, Connor, Arden-Rose, and Hudson.
He was the brother of Norman Villeneuve (Rose), the late Gilbert Villeneuve (Faye); and Paul Villeneuve (dec. Mary).
Even while facing cancer, Don remained close to his family and valued his time with them. Don will be remembered for his gentle nature and dry sense of humor. He brought a steady presence to gatherings, showing his love and support in his own quiet, understated way.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A private burial at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don’s memory to the Natural Heritage Trust.
