Leo served in the U.S. Army, Special Forces (Green Berets) during the Vietnam Era. A self starter, he created a successful advertising business in New York City and surrounding area. On 9/11 he was at the Egyptian Consulate in the City for a work appointment when the towers were hit, and in spite of the chaos at the Consulate and the City, he managed to get off the Island before Manhattan borders closed.
He met the “love of his life,” Kitty Callahan in the Bronx. Their wedding included a bag piper escort of all guests walking from the church to the reception hall in Nyack. They moved to Cortlandt Manor and built their life together of 38 years. Leo was an avid boater and could be found on the Hudson River or the Atlantic Ocean most weekends. He was a loving “parent” to their many adopted pets. Leo was a friend of Bill W and helped many.
He is survived by his wife Kitty and his brother Thomas John Geraghty and his wife Darlene (Zelanko) of Danbury, CT, his Aunt Adele Caruso of Brick, New Jersey, his best friend and best man John Brady of Brick, New Jersey, his favorite cousin John Bacevic of Ohio and many other cousins in New Jersey and Calif.
He is predeceased by his father Leo F. Geraghty, retired NYPD, and his mother Helen Grandel Geraghty Kessler.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 21 at 2 PM at the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY. 10548.
