Rose was born on February 16, 1939, in Nocera Terinese, Italy. As a young child she learned many crafts such as embroidering, crocheting, and sewing from the nuns in her hometown. She came to America in 1955 and lived in Brooklyn, where she met her husband, Tony DeLuca. They were married on September 13, 1959 and retired to South Carolina in 2003 until his passing in 2007. At that time, she returned back to Cortlandt Manor, where she lived with her daughter.
Rose owned and operated the Carvel Store on Main Street in Peekskill, New York from 1969 until 2003. She worked long, hard hours to ensure her customers got the best quality ice cream around. Rose employed many young teens at Carvel and truly treated each of them as if they were her own. It brought her great joy to see them out and about.
Rose was a devout Christian who loved the Lord with all of her heart. She emitted her love for the Lord in all that she did and it radiated to everyone whom she touched.
Anyone who knew Rose would surely say that her greatest accomplishment in life was her family. She was the most self-less person and always put her needs aside for the needs of those that she loved. Rose was an amazing cook, although she made it known that she didn’t like to cook. She made sure she treated anyone that came to her home as if they were one of her own; doting on them with food, love, and laughter.
Rose is survived by her son, Frank DeLuca and his wife JoEllen of Greenville, South Carolina, her daughter Laura McCauley and her husband Adam of Cortlandt Manor, and her most prized possessions – her grandchildren Brian Conklin, Faith Zane and her husband Jon, and Dillon Conklin and his soon-to-be wife, Stephanie Zulla. The times she spent with her grandchildren were the most precious moments of her life. The love they bestowed on her during her illness was a true reflection of the love she gave them. She is also survived by her mother, Rosina Cassano of Peekskill, her sister, Maria Raffaele of Montrose, and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers John and Angelo, and her sister Josephine.
