Evangeline "Vangie" Gabriel Fernandez

We are saddened to announce the passing of Evangeline Gabriel Fernandez (80), or “Vangie” as she was known to her family and friends. Vangie was born on March 12, 1944 in the Philippines and passed away on August 19, 2024 in Lakewood, California. She was married to Henry Marte Fernandez, who preceded her passing in 2013. Vangie worked as a nurse for over 40 years, with over half of those years working in the operating room at Redlands Community Hospital. She was a devoted sister, wife, mother and grandmother who spread joy and laughter to those around her. A friend to many, Vangie was a cherished member at her church and active within the community during the 30 years she lived in Highland, California. She moved to Lakewood to live with her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter eight years ago but continued to keep in touch with many of her friends until her passing. She is survived by her daughter Nwanee, son-in-law Kerry, granddaughter Caitlyn, sister Myrna and brothers Emanuel, Elpidio and Gil.

Viewing will be held on September 19, 2024 at Miller-Jones Mortuary in Moreno Valley from 4-8pm. Funeral mass will be held at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in Riverside on September 20, 2024 at 12pm followed by the graveside service at Riverside National Cemetery at 130pm where she will finally be reunited with her husband, Henry.
