

Born on January 6, 1935, in Sycamore Farm, Texas, Helen began her life with the strong roots of family and community that would guide her through the decades to come. Her early years were marked by a deep sense of purpose and resilience that carried her from Texas to California, where she pursued higher education at both UCLA and Compton College.
Helen’s professional journey reflected her unwavering commitment to helping others. She began her career as a seamstress, using her skilled hands and creative spirit to craft clothing for her children and friends—a talent she continued to share throughout her life. After completing her college education, Helen transitioned into public service as an Eligibility Worker, where she spent many years assisting individuals and families in need. In the later stages of her career, she served as a healthcare assistant, continuing to offer care and compassion to those around her.
Known affectionately as “Duchess,” Helen was admired not only for her work ethic but also for the warmth and generosity she extended to everyone she met. Her love for sewing remained a lifelong passion; she found joy in creating garments that brought comfort and beauty into the lives of others.
Helen’s legacy is one of love, strength, and service. She was described as wonderful, beautiful, loving, and caring—a testament echoed by those who knew her best. Her presence enriched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories that will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
