Kathleen State Broderick

Kathleen Adelle Allred (Kathleen State Broderick) was born on March 18th, 1932, in Long Beach, California. Her mother was Katherine Lucy Handy of Boise, Idaho. Her biological father was Rulon Clark Allred born in Colonia Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico. Her adoptive father was Kenneth Irvin State of Clarion, Iowa. Kathleen had a sister, Judith Allred Bingham and a brother, Forrest Allred, both deceased. Kathleen married Carlfred Bartholomew Broderick of Long Beach, California, on July 3rd, 1952, in the St. George LDS Temple. They have four sons: Carlfred (Daniela), Victor (Nada), Frank (Kayla) and Benjamin, deceased (Jonia) and four daughters: Katherine (Gus Saxon, deceased), Wendi (Brian Magennis), Jenifer (Rich Wales) and Beverly (Steven Farb). Kathleen and Carlfred have 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Kathleen passed away on December 20th, 2025, at her residence in Moreno Valley, California, at the age of 93. She was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when 8 years old in Long Beach, California. When she was 14 years old, she attended Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, where she graduated in 1949. She received several scholarships and enrolled at UCLA, majoring in French. She attended for two years. She worked for a year at Farmers’ and Merchants’ Bank in Long Beach and married her sweetheart Carlfred Bartholomew Broderick soon after. Kathleen and Carlfred lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he attended Harvard University, then in Ithaca, New York, where he attended Cornell University, then in Athens, Georgia, where he taught at the University of Georgia, then State College, Pennsylvania, where he taught at Penn State University, then to Minnesota for a year before going back to Pennsylvania, and then lastly made their home in Southern California, where Carlfred taught at USC for many years. Kathleen had many callings in the church, including Janitor, Teacher, Counselor and President in the Primary organization, Chorister, Pianist, Visiting Teacher, Counselor, Teacher and Service Leader in the Relief Society; Sunday School teacher, Genealogy Chairman, and Temple worker in the Los Angeles Temple. Kathleen sold her home in 2007 and moved to live with her son Carlfred and his wife Daniela to Moreno Valley, where she lived for the past 18 years. She loved her family, the Lord, the Church, the scriptures, music, education and nature consistently and perfectly. She instilled the same love and devotion to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. This is Kathleen’s posterity:
