Shirley Mae May

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at St. Luke Baptist Church 1709 Harry D Street Patterson, Louisiana. Burial will follow in Ibert's Cemetery in Patterson, Louisiana.

She will forever remain in the hearts of her brother, Arthur James Smith of Patterson, Louisiana; nine children, Sherial May, Sylvia Fields, Marvin May III, Beatrice May, Julia (Carl) Sterling, all of Patterson, Louisiana; Judy May of Mableton, Georgia; Karen May of Gray, Louisiana; Lois (Linzie) Palmer and Caprice (Kelvin) Britt of Stone Mountain, Georgia; two godchildren, Viola Williams and Arthur James Smith, both of Patterson, Louisiana; twenty-one grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren, nine great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Beatrice Carriere Smith; father, Hilliard Smith, Sr.; three sisters, Sarah Augman, Mary Louise “Gail” Smith, Delores Smith; four brothers, Nathaniel Smith, Alfred Smith, Hilliard Smith, Jr. and Huey Smith; her loving husband, Marvin May, Jr.; four children, Annette May, Jeanette May, Rosetta May, Marva May; one grandson, Manley Jackson, Jr.; a godchild, Hilliard Alvin Smith; and one son-in-law, Melvin Fields.
