Mary, “M” Mellentin, 78, passed away peacefully in July from Alzheimer’s. She was a loving Daughter to Lucien and Marian Cobb and spent her childhood in Roseburg, Oregon, on the family ranch and at the family gold mine. She attended Roseburg Jr HS, Santa Rosa HS, and San Jose State College in California, where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, National Scholastic Fraternity, and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree with Great Distinction and Honors in Nursing, in the 1st nurses class to graduate from SJ State. M, a Registered Nurse (R.N.), excelled in her career, which included Santa Clara County Health Department (Teacher/Clinical Instructor), Los Gatos Union School District (Head District Nurse), San Jose Unified School District (Administrator/Supervisor, Health Services), earning a Masters of Public Administration (M.P.A.) at College of Notre Dame, and serving on the Boards of numerous county and state organizations. M met and married Richard F. Thomas in college. M was a loving wife to Richard (31 years) and Mother to her twins; son Scott, and daughter Dana. An active and supportive Mom, she took the Family skiing and backpacking often and helped her Family pursue their own passions. M married her second husband William L. Mellentin in 1997 (20 years), and extended her family to include Bill’s children and grandchildren. Retiring to Mendocino in Northern California, they enjoyed art, gardening, their cats, and Mexico. She was an avid reader who participated in many book clubs. M became an accomplished acrylic painter of abstracts. M was a natural leader and an inspirational mentor to many. M loved to play bridge with her best friends. Her Family and Friends meant everything to her and she to them. M lived to love and laugh and she was adored by all who came to know her. She listened to each person who came in contact with her, and each is a better person for having known her. Our Mom was an engaging and kind soul. She was our Angel on Earth. Our Mom was and will always be our world. Nothing will ever separate us, we are always connected and together. WE LOVE YOU, MOM.

M was preceded in death by Bill, her second husband. M is survived by children Scott and Dana (Dawn) Thomas, Steve (Yolanda) Mellentin, Carol (Dave) Kupec, Julia (Emil) Michelotti, grandchildren Alexandra and Samantha Thomas, Laura and Michael Michellotti, and a wealth of loving Family in Oregon/Carmel Valley/East Coast and her dear Friends, all of whom M treasured.
