Barbara Lee Smith Mitchell

Barbara Lee Smith Mitchell, age 78, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 29th 2010 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County. She was born the daughter of the late Rufus Smith and Dora Ann Rhymer Smith on August 17th 1932 in McDowell County. Barbara was a member of Mt. Home Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend.

Along with her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Dan Mitchell; a sister, Christine Duncan; and a brother, Randall Smith.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include a son, Danny Ray Mitchell, Jr. of the J. Iverson Riddle Center; a brother, Jerry Michael Smith of Marion; four sisters, Sarah Sheehan of Marion, Carolyn L. Condrey of Rutherfordton, Peggy Chapman of Morganton and Rebecca Parris of Clyde.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 31st in the chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Rev. Darvy Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Burke Memorial Park.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Hospice of Rutherford County, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
