

She was born to the late James Governor “Sim” Caldwell and Bertha Louise Rutherford Caldwell on December 12, 1953 in Burke County.
Doretha was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Mt. Airy where she served as First Lady, and her husband Rev. Dr. Jasper W. Hemphill, Jr., served as her pastor. She worked in dispatch at the Burke Co. Sheriff’s Office before retiring from W.P.C.C. as a bookkeeper. Doretha enjoyed traveling, trying new recipes, watching lifetime, and the hallmark channel, she also enjoyed watching her favorite tv show NCIS.
In addition to her parents, Doretha was preceded in death by her brother, Donald L. Caldwell.
Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 25 years Rev. Dr. Jasper W. Hemphill, Jr., daughter; Chandra Forney, sons; Philly Cottrell, Tafathali Hemphill, and Col. Johari Hemphill, brother; James C. Caldwell, 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, with a host of cousins and friends.
A receiving of family and friends for Doretha will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Kirksey Funeral Home, 406 Lenoir Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. A funeral service will occur Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 4:00 PM.
Services for Doretha Ann Caldwell will be live streamed on Kirksey Funeral Service and Cremation Services Facebook Page.
