

Emma Jean Messer, age 73, formally of Waynesville, and a resident of Grace Heights, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 1st 2011. Emma was born the daughter of the late Golie Horace Rogers and Virginia Dare Suttles Rogers on October 22nd 1937 in Haywood County. She was of the Baptist Faith, and was known for her cooking, especially baking pumpkin pies. She also enjoyed making Christmas crafts. Emma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed.
Along with her parents, Emma is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Russell Messer, Sr.; an infant son; and a brother, Dick Rogers.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include two sons, Edward Russell Messer, Jr. and his wife, Ellen, and Joey W. Messer; two daughters, Debbie Messer Coleman and her husband, Ronald, and Sherri Messer Black, all of Morganton; a sister, Faye Rogers Rathbone of Mooresville.; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous other relatives and friends.
A Celebration and Remembrance of Emma’s Life will be held on Friday, August 5, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Kirksey Funeral Home.
