

Mr. Joseph Henry Lane, age 86, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Dixie Bodford Lane on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. He was born the son of the late Jesse Lane and Mae Propst Lane on July 1, 1931 in Burke County.
Henry was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where he served on numerous committees, donating his time and love in the service to others. Henry served his country honorable during the Korean War. Achieving the rank of Sargent, he was a proud member of the United States Air Force. Henry loved to build and repair musical instruments as well as furniture, bicycles and jewelry. He had a passion for Blue Grass Music, and had repaired over 50 stand-up base fiddles for various musicians over the years. Henry loved life and enjoyed spending time with his friends at “The Breakfast Club” at Allison’s restaurant.
Those left behind to cherish Henry’s memory include three sons, Gary Dean Lane and Joseph David Lane of the home, and Terry Scott Lane and his wife Carla of Morganton; a sister Dot O’Brien and her husband John of Albany, GA; and a precious granddaughter, Kelly Mae Hernandez and her husband Alex of Goldsboro. Also surviving are numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Gantt and Rev. Kevin Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Kirksey Funeral Home.
