

Laven Jean “Maw Maw” McFarland, age 83, of Morganton, went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 26, 2017. She was born to the late Hazel Turner and Beatrice DeVinney Turner on March 20, 1934 in Rutherford County. Jean was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, and at church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Charles McFarland; a grandson, Shawn Biddix; three sisters, Marilyn Foster, Jewel Stanley and Ruth Anne Caraway.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her husband, James McFarland of the home; three children, Kenneth McFarland (Doris), Linda McFarland and Debbie Buff; sister, Charlotte Moller (Carl); ten grandchildren, Jamie Miller, Joe Miller (Kasey), Jennifer Miller (Randy), Charles Alan McFarland (Joey), Michael McFarland (Sarah), James McFarland (Dre), Kendra Arrowood (David), Haze McFarland (Kelly) Tonya Scott (Brandon) and Lucas Buff (Allison); fourteen great grandchildren, Patience Miller(Josh), Caleb Dunbar, Shianne Eddins, Trent McFarland, Brooke McFarland, Avery McFarland, Abby McFarland, Ansley McFarland, Ali McFarland, Charlie Rose McFarland, Chandler Cohoon, Colton and Cade Arrowood and Adalyn Scott; and many other relatives and friends who loved Jean.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, July 7, 2017 in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home with Reverend Burt Williams officiating. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
