Lena Ann (Harshaw) Sudduth

Lena Harshaw Sudduth, age 72, of Morganton, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024. She was born the daughter of the late Novella Brother Harshaw and Louise Wilkins Harshaw on July 18,1951 in Burke County.

Lena Sudduth’s selfless service to her community is captured in her innate ability to meet the needs of others by providing meals to churches and individuals. She further served her community as a Corrections Officer for the North Carolina Juvenile Corrections Department before retiring in 2012.

Those left behind to cherish Lena’s memory include her three sons, William “Monty” Harshaw and his wife Tina J. Harshaw of Morganton; Danynel “Shorty” Sudduth and his wife Jamillah Sudduth of Morganton; Tom Payne of Morganton; and her three sisters, Kathy Harshaw, Wanda Harshaw (all of Morganton) and Carolyn Sudduth of Mississippi; a brother, Nate Harshaw of Morganton; and a best friend and cousin Judy Hawkins of Morganton. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Kirksey Funeral Home. A "Homegoing Service" will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 13, 2024 in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home.

A private interment will be held at Hartland Church of God Cemetery.
