Leroy Clayton Owens

He was born October 22, 1970, in Morganton to the late Dorothy Hayden Owens and David Clayton Owens. Leroy graduated in 1989 from Freedom High School in Morganton. While at Freedom High, he enjoyed playing basketball, and baseball, but he loved and was mostly known for playing football. After graduation, he attended and graduated from Western Carolina University with a BS in Computer Information Systems. While at Western, he pledged and was First Vice President and then President of their undergraduate chapter Kappa Sigma of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in which he was a part of and loved for 27 years.

When Leroy was in Morganton he attended St. John Holiness Church where he sang in the choir and was a musician.

Leroy was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Hayden Owens and Grandparents Evelyn Poole, Ruth O. Thomas and Joseph Conley.

Leroy leaves to cherish his memory his wife, LaKeatia Daniels-Owens of Knightdale, Father, David Clayton Owens of Morganton, Sister, Theresa Owens Lawrence ( Elder Kenneth) of Morganton, three God children, Shauntrelle Horton, Jordan and Joshua Wilkes. In addition, Leroy also leaves behind a grandmother-in-law, Lillian Durr of Jacksonville, a father-in-law, Dr. Wes Lindsey, Jr. of Jackson, MS; two sister-in-law, Joy Lindsey of Washington D.C. and Norell Daniels Smith (Jason) of Charlotte; two aunts, Ester Lytle and Sharon Conley, both of Morganton; four uncles, Ronald, Wayne, Steve, and Chris Conley all of Morganton; two aunt-in-law, Renee Durr Wiggins (Ronnie) and Pamela Durr of Charlotte; three nieces, Jenica Myers of Raleigh, Jacelynn Moore and Cordian Logan both of Morganton; fraternal brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. numerous cousins, friends and fur baby, Ladybug.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 20, 2018, from 6 to 8 pm at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton NC. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Wake Chapel Church, 4509 Bland Road, Raleigh NC 27609, from 12 to 12:45pm. Services will begin at 1pm. Burial will be Sunday April 22,2018 at Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery at 3PM.
