

Lon Owen Pyatte, age 86, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 16, 2019 while in the care of Burke Hospice. Lon was born to the late Carl Lee Pyatte and Alberta Woody Pyatte on October 17, 1932 in Avery County.
Lon loved the Lord, and was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Valdese. He held the position of Deacon and the Superintendent of Sunday School. Lon served his country honorable in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed a good joke and playing the occasional trick on someone. Lon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Along with his parents, Lon is preceded in death by his first wife, Loretta Campbell Pyatte; a son, Rodney Dale Pyatte; and numerous brothers and sisters.
Those left behind to cherish Lon’s memory include his wife of 16 years, Vesta Ruth Clisby Pyatte of the home; two daughters, Carla Ross (Gary) and Star Baugham (Keith), both of Valdese; a step-daughter, Kim Ray (Matt) of Raleigh; a step-son, Rodney Cotten (Stephanie) of Alabama; four grandchildren, Noah Ross of Valdese, Hannah Mauney (Kyle) of Valdese, Aaron Baughman (Kayla) of Hildebrand and Selby Baughman of Valdese; three great grandchildren, Wesley Lon Ross, Jaylynn and Desirae Mauney, all of Valdese; a sister, Farlyn Woodward of Valdese; numerous nieces and nephews, to include a special nephew, James Simmons; and a beloved canine friend, Riley.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Hodge officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
