Mary Jane (Bergmann) Vegter

Mary Jane Vegter, 73, of Morganton, went to be with Jesus on July 11, 2022, surrounded by her husband and children. She was born in March 1949 in Norwood, MN. She attended The Vera Duane Beauty Academy and had a very successful career as a hair dresser and salon owner. Later in life she was dedicated to caring for people at the Riddle Center in Morganton where she loved and cared for her patients. She also took care of Ginny Thompson, whom she adored and always had a special place in her heart. While attending Faith Presbyterian Church, Mary used her hair dressing talents and loving heart as a ministry to many.

Mary was married to her husband, Ed Vegter, for almost 45 years. She loved reading, cooking, baking, gardening, and taking care of her family. She had a deep faith that she loved sharing with others. To know Mary was to love Mary.

She was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She is survived by her husband, Ed Vegter, of Morganton; her son, Sam Vegter (Kimberly), of Hickory; her daughter, Holly Mauldin (Brian), of Connelly Springs; her daughter, Josie Vegter, of Charlotte; and her grandchildren Hunter Mauldin, Grant Mauldin, Cady Mauldin, Lucy Vegter, Abby Vegter, Britt Mauldin and Emmett Vegter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Vivian Bergmann, and her brothers, Jim Bergmann and Bobby Bergmann.

The memorial service will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church (605 Bost Road, Morganton, NC 28655) on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 11 am with Pastor Mike Thompson officiating. A reception will follow the memorial service and a separate private burial for family will occur at a later date.
