

Sarah Ellen Pitts, age 85, of Autumn Care in Drexel, and formally a resident of Glen Alpine, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 26th 2010. Sarah was born the daughter of the late James Aaron Garfield Pitts and Mabel Boyd Pitts on June 14th 1925 in Burke County. She was a lifelong member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church, where she had served in many functions of the ministry including as a Sunday School Teacher. Not only was Sarah an active member of her church, she also supported her community. Sarah was a Cub Scout Den Mother and volunteered for civic events. She spent many of her working years employed at the A & P Grocery Store and at the Western Carolina Center. Sarah was a loving person and will be greatly missed.
Along with her parents, Sarah is preceded in death by two brothers, Robert T. Pitts and William E. Pitts; and by three sisters, Mary P. Stamey, Maude P. Franklin and Ida P. Pitts.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include three sisters, an identical twin – Sue P. Isaacs and her husband, Vaughn of Glen Alpine, Lucille P. McGimpsey of Mooresville and Ada P. Jones of Charlotte; six nieces, Rebecca S. Sehorn, Jane S. Kiziah, Lynn P. Garrett, Cheryl P. Foulk, Barbara I. Black and Linda M. Smith; and two nephews, Bob M. Pitts and Jim Isaacs. Also surviving is a host of family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 30th 2010 at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Duncan, Rev. Tom Beall and Rev. Cheryl P. Foulk officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
