

Mr. William Washington Gwyn, age 88, of Morganton, and the beloved husband of Jennie Alice Fox Gwyn, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 15th 2010 at Grace Hospital. William was the son of the late Charlie Gwyn and Pearl Cable Gwyn born on August 8th 1922 in Avery County. He was a longtime member of Missionary Ridge Baptist Church, and was retired from Broughton Hospital. William was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Along with his parents, William is preceded in death by a son Roy Gwyn, and three brothers, Elbert, Charles and Henry Gwyn.
Those left to cherish William’s memory include his loving wife of 67 years, Jennie Gwyn; three daughters, Phyllis Noble of Travelers Rest, SC, Margie Edwards and her husband Tim, and Marilyn Hicks and her husband Dale, both of Morganton; four sons, Glen Gwyn and his wife, Kathy of Lexington, David Gwyn and his wife, Ramona of Morganton, Rev. Bruce Gwyn and his wife, Deborah of Mineral Springs, and Michael Gwyn of Morganton; four sisters, Rosie Cable of Bremerton, WA, Mary Hodge, Voreta Caraway, and Bertie Gwyn, all of Avery County; and two brothers, Sampson Gwyn of Crossnore, and Jimmy Gwyn and his wife, Nina of Newland. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, October 18th 2010 at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Lovelace and Rev. Al Tinnin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church’s L.E.C. from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. prior to the service.
