Dorothy L. Wolfe

Dorothy was born in Hancock County in 1935 and was saved in 1947 at Friendship Baptist Church on her 12th birthday. She and her husband, Emory Wolfe, were married on the steps of Cool Branch Church in 1953. They and their four sons moved to Bean Station in 1967.

She joined Barnards Grove Baptist Church in 1970. Dorothy loved her church and at the time of her death was one of the oldest living members.

Dorothy had a great love of cooking and was happiest when her family gathered at her house after church each week for Sunday dinner. She was a fixture at Holt’s IGA deli for years and loved meeting and serving customers there. She worked until she was 81 years old, when she was forced to stop working due to medical issues.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wright “Emory” Wolfe; son, Gary Wolfe; parents, Lewis and Martha Harris Winstead; brothers, Herbert “Bud” Winstead and Earl Winstead; and sisters, Eunice Winstead Johns and Ina Winstead Green.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Wolfe, Danny (Barbara) Wolfe and Terry (Tracey) Wolfe; grandchildren, Tonya “Nickie” (Marty) Shelton, Kasey (Brad) Brewer, Rachel Wolfe, Tabbetha “Tabby” (Robert) Reed, Bobbi Wolfe, Todd Wolfe, and Heather (John) Rickard; great-grandchildren, Brantley Brewer, Lanna Brewer, Reagan Brewer, Cole Shelton, Cale Shelton, Amber Shockley, Bryan Bishop, Brody Bishop, Sylis Carpenter, Rylie Carpenter, Lylia Carpenter, Emory “Emme” Lackey, Landree Wolfe, Gavin Wolfe, Haven Wolfe, Carson Strange and Aliyah Rickard; and several special nieces and nephews.

The family deeply appreciates the care provided to Dorothy by physical therapists, nurses and nursing aides with Amedisys Home Health and Hospice.

Per Dorothy’s wishes, family and friends are invited to a graveside service to be held at Hamblen Memory Gardens at 3:00 PM, Thursday, September 26, 2024, Rev. Roger Hansard and Rev. Marty Shelton will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Barnards Grove Baptist Church, designated for the Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions.
