Opal L. Scearce, age 72, of Bean Station, passed away early Wednesday, September 4, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was at a place you’d not want to see a loved one, but when the sting of death came, the love and compassion made it the perfect place to be. That is the Serenity House. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Leola Davis; brother, Fred Davis, all of Bean Station; and son-in-love, Mickey Strange. She is survived by her loyal and loving husband of 55 ¾ years, Thomas Scearce of Bean Station; son, Michael (Donna) Scearce of Mt. Carmel; daughter, Linda Strange of Thorn Hill; sister, Mable McCollough of Mooresburg; brother, Jack (Bonnie) Davis of Bean Station; sisters-in-law, Faye Davis of Bean Station, Christene (Doyle) Roberts of Rutledge, Lorene (Clyde) Roach of Russellville, and Estelle Pond of Ohio; grandsons, Joseph (Kayla) Strange of Sneedville, Brad Strange of Thorn Hill, and Jacob (Cindy) Russell of Kingsport; granddaughters, Tabatha (Ryan) Swayze of Bean Station, Bessie (Joey) Van Bremen of Sneedville, and Jessica (Anthony Wardwell) Scearce of Morristown; great-grandchildren, Preston, Ashley, Cameron, Madison, Joseph, Zane, Lexy, Grace, and Isaiah; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. We will all miss her. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home. Rev. Raymond Long and Rev. Kenneth Hopkins will officiate. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m., on Saturday, in Meek Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service, where the grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8:00 p.m. Friday prior to the services. Many thanks to Amedisys Hospice Care, Serenity House, and their wonderful volunteers in Morristown; you have our sincerest, heartfelt gratitude to all!
