May 15, 1915- Aug. 31, 2011
Born in Portland, Oregon to Walter and Mary Werst. The family moved to Seattle shortly thereafter. The Ballard area was to be her home most of her life. She had seven siblings, all of whom predeceased her. She married her childhood sweetheart, Wayne, in 1935. They had two children, Barbara Fox, who lives in Morton with her husband Jay, and son Terry, who passed away in 2007. Husband Wayne passed away in 1964. She is survived by four granddaughters, Vicki, Chris, Wendy, and Carol, three great-granddaughters, Madeline, Rachael, and Danielle, and many nieces and nephews. She was a complete homemaker, sewing, cooking, canning, etc. She also worked outside the home as a grocery clerk and bookkeeper for Safeway and A&P, along with several mom & pop stores. She worked as a clerk and filled many orders for Wash. State Liquor Stores. Mom loved to garden and travel. She travelled to see family in her 1966 Mustang. Mom said no car ever handled as well as her Mustang. She went on many tours through her senior center. Mom travelled to England, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, and enjoyed it all. She was resourceful, and once she set her mind on something to be done, she was very determined to finish. She never gave up. Her body gave up. It was time, in 2008, for professional care. We brought her to Morton, to live at Morton Manor-Heart of Gold Adult Family Home. She has received the best of care from all her care-givers, with love and caring. She will be missed by all of us. Visitation is scheduled for Thurs., Sept. 15, 2011 at 8:30 a.m., with a service to follow at 9:30 a.m. in Brown Mortuary Chapel. Arrangements are under the care of Brown Mortuary Service, Morton, WA.
