A Mass of Christian Burial for Anne Louise Hance Guidry will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Fr. John Huckaby and Msgr. Charles J. Dubois will serve as concelebrants. Burial will follow at Old Ritchie Cemetery, Moss Bluff under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home.
Anne Louise Guidry, the much loved daughter of Eldridge and Mary D. Hance, was born December 19, 1953. Anne graduated from Oberlin High School where she excelled at basketball, served on the homecoming court, and cheered on her much-loved Tigers. Following graduation from Oberlin High, Anne enrolled at McNeese State University, the university where she would receive her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as her master’s plus 30 in education. At McNeese, Anne was an active member of the Alpha Upsilon chapter of Phi Mu Sorority, serving as President in 1975. She maintained lifelong friendships with her Phi Mu sisters and an active role as an alumnus.
Anne was a teacher/coach in Calcasieu Parish Schools for over twenty-eight years, and an administrator for seven. Dedicated to her athletes, Anne coached the Sam Houston High Lady Broncos with great success. She was named both District Basketball Coach of the Year and District Softball Coach of the Year numerous times; she had the honor of being named Southwest Louisiana Softball Coach of the Year, and was selected to coach State All-Star games for both softball and basketball. Anne reached the pinnacle of success as a softball coach when she was inducted into the Louisiana Softball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame. She left the ranks of coaching, but she did not go far; becoming the assistant principal at Sam Houston High School. As an administrator, she continued her endeavors to help each student become all that he or she could become. She emanated purple and gold, and her mantra, “Go Big Sam!” became and will continue to be the school’s mantra.
A devout Catholic, Anne served the St. Theodore Church community in a variety of capacities. Most greatly cherished were the quiet moments she spent in the Adoration Chapel and in her cherished role as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. She was an active member of The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court of the Visitation 1999, and a participant in the first St. Theodore/St. Pius A.C.T.S. mission.
Anne was generous in sharing her time and energy with the community of Moss Bluff and with special causes. She was an active member of the Ward I Recreation Board for a number of years and served in an advisory capacity on other community boards. As a three-time cancer survivor, she was a successful fund-raising advocate for the Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
Anne was the epitome of a true blue friend, intensely loyal to her family and friends. She enjoyed Sunday lunches of gumbo or spaghetti with family, watching the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints, old westerns, and oh, how she loved crawfish!
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Eldridge and Mary D. Hance. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of twenty-eight years, Bobby Guidry and beloved son, Michael Hance Guidry; along with extended family, Abel Guidry and wife, Shelley. Anne was also "Nana" to her adored Emmy, Reese, and Ryleigh Guidry. She leaves behind, too, her treasured Baton Rouge family and a host of very dear friends, including the Bourré buddies and all “HER girls” from the teams she coached, who will miss her greatly and smile as they remember her with wonderful memories.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Moss Bluff and will resume on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral mass at 12:00 at the church. Pallbearers are David Katchur, Ben Lofton, Gregory Monceaux, Mike Reed, Felix Simon, and Dr. Bill Storer.
A special thank you is extended to the nurses of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital-9th Floor, Dr. Sandra Bruno, Dr. Michael Turner and his nurse practitioner, Anna Landry.
