Mr. Fisher,
A staggering intellect, a compassionate heart, an expansive, interested mind, a mechanical genius, encyclopedic knowledge, a world view that was both rational and artistic in design, a gifted conversationalist, dedicated and loyal even if alone (brave), a second father to me and a major positive influence on my life.  An incredibly unique individual who is not easily forgotten and therefore lives on through the memories of the many lives he touched.

Hello Papa, 

Here I am writing you again, definitely not the last time. I have always felt writing you was like writing myself.  I know you and I are very much alike. Our troubleshooting skills are paramount and are only equaled on a rare occasion. In those moments we found friends for a lifetime. 



I would like to say thank you for being at my high school graduation. It really meant a lot to me even though I didn't say much that day. Truthfully, I can't believe I made it through that year having my parents’ divorce two months into my Senior year of high school. Wow, what a mind job.  I have to say though the twenty dollars you threw my way when I visited you and Mimi meant a lot. 



When it came time for me to join the Marines, I thank you very much for supporting me. Other than my mother you were the only one in Louisiana that thought it was a good idea. Looking back now I think it’s pretty funny.  You knew I would achieve the max ASFAB score. Of course, putting me in a high level aviation position would happen. I see now your pride and confidence as we drove the final time to the recruiting station and we said our goodbyes as I headed to New Orleans before MCRD San Diego. It was not my father or mother that I said goodbye to that day but my grandparents, for this only amplified my feelings for you and I did not want to let you down in failure. 



After a quick ten days of sleep deprivation and physical exhaustion, finally it was mail call and I received your first letter. By that point I had put forth many steps to becoming a man. However, you already knew that as you stated in the letter. You said, "By now you see and hear things on a different level." In this moment, I did not feel alone in this world. My grandfather is with me and gives his encouragement for me to keep going. Keep going, Yes, through Marine Corps boot camp, the mother of all sociological breakdown and renewal at the end if you can make it.



The 12 weeks passed without incident and we both wrote many letters. You did not travel to the military graduation as you had been through one yourself. However, you sent your wife and daughter. I could not believe that Mimi and Aunt Kaye were able to make it. The first night for family to be allowed to see the recruits, I could barely talk I was so shocked. In this moment, I realized the importance of family. 



I know our time was cut short as it was with my father, Kelly. At the young age of 16, I was forced to leave my father’s roof. That's my life.  I just want to say thank you for the physics and Ohm's law lessons at your kitchen table over the years from age 11 to 15.  Thank you for the encyclopedia set. From these books and your teachings at your kitchen table on the napkins you taught me mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering. I was the eager learner and then as you looked into a child’s eyes you spoke the truth every time. Not sugar coating and twisted but the honest truth. You took a chance hoping I would learn and not make the same mistakes. Well, as always I am still trying. 



I knew I was the last Fisher, but it has come so fast. My only saving grace to continue this legacy is my faith in Jesus Christ. With all the help from my guardian angels, my mother, Susan, sister, Adrienne, your daughter, Kaye and granddaughter, Jessica, I owe.  Their prayers have kept me safe in troubled times during serving our country and at home. 



To the ones that do not know, Clarence and I did a six week project in 2008. We both researched the fuel cell car and the electric and decided it was a better option. Mark my words the industry will try electric cars with batteries, then switch to hydrogen: fuel cell technology. Clarence and I called it in 2008.  Fuel cell is the best choice, let the battery companies fight it out but even with lithium it’s not good enough to replace the internal combustion engine.



To say Clarence liked physics was an understatement. He loved quantum physics. Pushing the envelope of reality was a trait he shared with only a few individuals.
My grandfather makes me very proud to be his grandson. I hope to continue my hard work ethic and anything can be fixed attitude. 
Luckily, they did not break the mold after Clarence. Cause I got it too!! What a gift! 

Trust me; I thanked him a few times.


Papa, next time I see you we are going flying. We’ll talk then.

Alayna would like to share her favorite last memory with Papa. She remembers making a cupcake for him to celebrate his last birthday. She enjoyed connecting with Papa over one of her favorite things- sweets! We love you, Papa!

One day he went to fly the plane and fly the plane he did,
Up high above the sky, above the sky, above the clouds
Down he went close to the ground, only brought back up to the sky above the sky, above the clouds.

Adison wrote this poem in remembrance of Papa.  Adison interpreted the flying plane as representing Papa's life. When Mimi died, Adison saw Papa's heart veer close to the bad things. But, at the end of his life, he went to heaven and reunited with God.

We love you Papa! We look forward to seeing you again one day in eternity!

Papa, you were always a deep thinker- challenging the norms, testing theories, and thriving on trying new things. You are an inspiration to me to try new things and technology. You were one of the first people to install the seatbelt in your car because you knew it was smart. You figured out how to email and keep up with your family/friends the "new" way. You showed love in your special way. I watched you through many difficult times. I am thankful to have confidence that Jesus completely healed and restored you AND we shall continue our deep conversations in heaven one day! Love you always!

Uncle "C" was the most progressive man I have ever known.  terry and I loved to visit them and see his latest "toy".  My brother, who worked with him at Olin said if "Clarence Fisher could not fix something, it could not be fixed."  I miss him but know he is fixing everything in heaven and having a great reunion with Aunt Lois, Kevin, Kelly and Terry and the rest of his family.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.   Linda Dowies

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of "Uncle" Clarence. He and my father, George Fisher were first cousins and I grew up calling him Uncle. We were out of town and missed the funeral. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
