

Henry Bascum Carpenter, Sr., 85, was born on March 12, 1931 in Manchester, Louisiana to Samuel Haze and Margaret Dugas Carpenter. He passed from this life into his eternal reward in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 1, 2016 at 5:25 pm surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Carpenter’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Moss Bluff officiated by Dr. Steve Bennett. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the church from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will resume on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 10:00 am until time of service. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
Mr. Henry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Connie Ruth Prather Carpenter, three daughters, Jo Lynn Twiner (Tommy) of Bentonia, Mississippi, Jan Ellen Feutral (Dennis) of Brenham, Texas and Anna Jill Graham (Clint) of Moss Bluff, Louisiana and one son, Henry Bascum “Chip” Carpenter, Jr. (Misty) of Sulphur, Louisiana. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by one daughter, Patti Joy Stakes (Johnny), his parents, seven brothers and one sister.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 and attained the rank of Sergeant within a few months. He was an insulator through the Asbestos Worker’s Local 112 of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and ran jobs locally and in several states and Canada. He was named “Boss of the Year” in 1978 by the Lake Charles Jaycees.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Moss Bluff, for more than 40 years. He was a Sunday school teacher and served on many committees, most recently the Board of Trustees and the Counting Committee. He coached both baseball and softball in the Dixie Youth Program in Moss Bluff. He also enjoyed building airplane swings for the children of relatives and friends and also for charities. In his younger years he helped family and friends build and remodel homes out of the goodness of his heart. His favorite pastime was attending bluegrass and southern gospel concerts around the United States. He loved to work in the yard and often stated that he did a lot of praying while on his riding lawn mower.
