

Joseph Tate began his postal career in Lake Charles in 1958 as a Letter Carrier. His management career began in 1972 as a Carrier Supervisor in Lake Charles. In 1981 he became Supervisor of Delivery Operations in Lafayette Louisiana and in 1985 he became MSC Manager of Delivery Services and Manager of Mail Processing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was instrumental in the advancement of mail automation at the Baton Rouge Mail Processing Plant. He retired as Post Master in Lake Charles on December 31, 2006. He retired after 48 years of dedicated service to the United States Postal Service.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Tammy Tate-Gobert (Kim), Joseph Troy Tate (Jill) and Joseph Terrence Tate; six grandchildren, Tori, Brandyn, Tanner, Cade, Kali, and Trey; his brother, Irvin J. Tate (Deborah), brother-in-law, Herman G. Metoyer (Annie); sister-in -law, Irene Metoyer, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ursula Jane Metoyer-Tate, parents, Dumas and Mary Tate, sister, Dorothy Tate-Rogers, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ophelia Porche-Metoyer and Louis Edward Metoyer; brothers-in -law, William, John and Louis Edward Metoyer III and sister-in-law Dorothy Metoyer-Honore.
Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2016. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.at the funeral home. The funeral will be Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 12 noon at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff, Louisiana with burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lake Charles. We would like to thank Lisa Franklin, Tresa Leger and Tina Price for taking care of our mom and dad through the last few months of their life.
