Charles J. Pilat was born on July 13, 1930, in Shiner, Texas to the late Albert and Mary (Koncaba) Pilat. He was the youngest of eleven children. They include Adolph, Albert, Louis, Fred, Eddie, Willie, Annie Kalisek Mary Kristynik, Rosie Jobb, and Tracy Stary.
He graduated from Baursville School and resided with his family in the Novarad area near Moulton.
On August 2, 1949 he married Frances Marie Schraer in the St. Joseph Catholic Church here in Moulton. Later they were blessed with six sons, Joe Allen (Linda), Robert (Earlene), Mark (Yvonne), Russell, Chris, and Curtis (Denise). He was a dedicated grandfather to nineteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
In 1952, Charles purchased a local meat market in partnership with his brother. In the early sixties, he sold his part of the business and went into the cattle feedlot business. After he retired his favorite pastime was gardening, playing dominos along with spending time with friends and family.
Charles is survived by one brother, Willie Pilat of Moulton.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Pilat, wife Frances Schraer Pilat, brothers Adolph Pilat, Albert Pilat, Louis Pilat, Eddie Pilat, and Fred Pilat, sisters Annie Kalisek, Mary Kristynik, Rosie Jobb, Tracy Stary, and grandson Clayton Mark Pilat.
