MR RONALD STEVEN GERNER
June 23, 1954 - July 11, 2015
Bronx, New York, New York | Age 61
Ronald Steven Gerner was born on June 23, 1954 and lived a full and meaningful life in The Bronx, New York. The son of the late Robert and Pearl Gerner, one of three children, long time true friend to more than we can count, and teacher for many years, Ron built his life around principles of a moral man. He developed himself into a skilled educator with an admirable professional and moral code. He honored both of his parents, in their years of health and especially in times when they required loving care during illnesses. A sense of humor and keen wit helped make him a memorable character while he offered unique and intelligent insights about aspects of day-to-day life. A graduate of Herbert Lehman College in The Bronx, he applied his keen knowledge of science, education, and aspects of the human condition, in the arts, in business, and then later as a long time teacher of science in high school. Later, he became a writer of fiction, and a published author. He was a dear friend to many, and as each of us, he left behind ideas, influences, and contributions in the people he coached and taught. He faced his illness in ways true to his personal standards. He was both fighter and strategist as he faced the disease on different levels. His positive outlook and his discipline formed his pathway as he took purposely steps. He died unexpectedly, after beginning a routine treatment, on July 11, 2015 at about 12:00 noon. He was not alone, he is well remembered and well loved by many who had the privilege of meeting him along his several journeys. He learned and applied the skills, on many levels, to live a purposeful life in an inspirational way. It was a privileged gift to call him friend. We will miss him.
