Alta L. Renner, 88, of Yorktown, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Yorktown Manor. She was born on October 2, 1937, in Yorktown, to George and Hazel (Falby) Doughty. On July 22, 1958, Alta married Jack Renner, and he preceded her in passing on February 13, 1979.
Born into a bustling household as one of eleven children, Alta learned early the values of hard work, resilience, and family—qualities that would define her life. She grew up surrounded by laughter, love, and the hum of daily life, always carving her own path with grace and determination.
A devoted mother and proud single parent for many years, Alta poured her heart into raising her daughters, building a home filled with love. She found deep joy in the simple pleasures of life—digging her hands into the soil during long afternoons of yardwork, tending to her flowers, and watching the birds that visited her feeders.
In later years, she shared countless adventures with her beloved partner, Mike, traveling together to Yellowstone National Park, participating in meetings and events with the Yorktown I.O.O.F. Lodge, and savoring every new experience life offered. Their companionship was built on laughter, shared curiosity, and a deep, enduring affection, until his passing in 2009.
But perhaps nothing brought Alta greater joy than her family, especially her only great-grandchild, Samantha, whom she adored beyond measure. Her eyes always lit up when she spoke of Samantha, and her stories were full of pride, love, and wonder.
Alta will be remembered for her strength, her kindness, her independence, and her unwavering love for the people and world around her. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and resilience that will live on in every heart she touched.
Alta is survived by her grandchildren, Christina (Jesse) Beaty, Bradley Main, Jason Walters, Phaedra (Mike) Rawlinson, and special granddaughter-in-law, Emily Junker; great-granddaughter, Samantha Beaty; brothers, Jack and Ferrell Doughty; son-in-law, Carl Walters; and special niece who helped to care for Alta in the past two years, Ila.
She was preceded in passing by her parents; husband, Jack; daughters, Karen Walters and Kimberly (James) Mathews; partner, Michael Reed; brothers, George, Verba, Bill, and Floyd; and sisters, Margaret, Vivian, Betty, and Rosie.
A funeral service will take place at 12 pm on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, in Muncie, with Pastor Jeff Haill officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10 am until the time of the service, on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
