Betty Ann Burch (Upchurch) was called to heaven on December 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on July 1, 1944, to the late Leroy and Reba Upchurch, and was raised in Muncie.
She attended Muncie schools until 1960, and worked at the drive-in on 8th and Hoyt, where she met John Burch, the love of her life. She worked at the Cabinet Company until 1968, then John and Betty married on December 20 of that year.
In the mid-80's, Betty worked at Eavey’s Grocery Store in the deli before beginning her career at Lifetouch Senior Portraits, where she remained until retiring in 2009.
Betty enjoyed spending her time reading true crime and loved rummaging for a good deal. Yard sales filled many of her weekends, and she was known to buy everything from a three-and-a-half-foot-tall bullet lamp to a five-dollar camel saddle.
Small breed dogs were her favorite, chihuahuas in particular. She rescued one dog from the pound, and it was the smartest dog she ever had.
Betty was a true fan of the blues. She played guitar, loved music, and was very knowledgeable about it. She stayed up to date on current events, from pop culture to politics, and loved watching football and baseball games.
Raw, real, and to the point, her side-splitting laughter and sense of fun were how she made her mark on so many people she encountered. Her stories will be told forever.
Betty is survived by her brother, Greg Brooks, of South Carolina; Gayel Fogel, of Florida, her lifelong friend; two sisters, Lisa Upchurch and Syretta Upchurch, both of Muncie; her cousin, Marty Kumar, of Fort Wayne; her cousin-in-laws, Jim Hutson and Krisi Hutson; two sisters-in-law, Linda Burch and Cinda Taylor (Mike), of southern Indiana; her sister-in-law, Jerre Reeder (David); as well as several nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by Robert and Bertha Stockton, who raised her; her stepfather, George Brooks; her husband, John Burch; her cousin, Carol Ann Hutson; her in-laws, Walter Sr. and Loraine Burch; her brother-in-law, Walter Burch, Jr.; Penny Denny, a dear friend; Jason Shoemaker, a true friend; and her nephew, Jamie Taylor.
There will be no services, but a family gathering will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions in Betty's name may be directed to the Animal Rescue Fund,1209 W Riggin Rd, Muncie, IN 47303, or at https://www.munciearf.com/donate-arf .
