Christopher Martin“Chris” Charles, 70, passed away April 22, 2026, at Ball Memorial Hospital from an extended illness. He was born June 13, 1955, in Muncie, the son of Robert Joseph and Dorothy Ann (Ohlemacher) Charles.
A proud graduate of Yorktown High School, Class of 1974, Chris went on to attend the Chicago School of Floral Arts before going on to work for Pepsi, 7‑Up, Indiana Steel and Wire, and Paul’s Flower Shop, building strong relationships and earning the respect of those around him. His dedication and steady presence made a lasting impression on coworkers and friends alike.
Outside of work, Chris could be found on the golf course, hitting buckets of balls, going to top golf and even playing putt-putt with his family. He had a keen eye for the natural world, spending countless peaceful hours birdwatching and delighting in the small wonders of nature. He also loved to travel, finding joy in flying, exploring new places and creating memories along the way. And if there was a BINGO hall nearby, he was sure to be there—smiling and savoring the thrill of the next number called.
One of his greatest traditions was attending the Indy 500 every year, a ritual he cherished for its excitement, camaraderie, and the sense of tradition it carried. At home, Chris expressed his love through cooking, filling kitchens with comforting aromas and sharing meals that brought people together.
Faith was a steady and grounding part of his life. His faith was a source of strength, connection, and purpose, and he carried those values with him in the way he treated others—with kindness, humility, and generosity.
He leaves behind a legacy of joy, curiosity, and love. Those who knew him will remember his adventurous spirit, his warm presence, and the way he made every moment feel a little brighter.
Chris is survived by his daughter, Morgan Charles (Justin Bow); three grandchildren, Chelsea, Faith and Erin; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Parker; siblings, Lori (Mark) Dellinger, Brian (Gina) Charles, and Craig (Brenda) Charles; good friend, Karen Ronald; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in passing by his parents and two grandsons, Matthew Robert Moore and Alexander Walker.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana, 47304. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM.
