Claude Hutcherson,83, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away December 5, 2025, at Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born June 3, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of James Hutcherson and Mary (Richardson) Hutcherson.
Born and raised in Tennessee, Claude was a man of kindness, humility, and generosity. To know him was to be welcomed into his circle, and you never left his house empty-handed. His warmth and selflessness were felt by everyone who had the privilege of crossing his path.
He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, always putting others before himself. His love for family was immeasurable, and he considered his step-grandchildren as his own, taking great pride in their lives and accomplishments. They were his joy, and his love for them knew no bounds. He cherished his role as a grandfather, always offering a kind word, a helpful hand, or a piece of advice that would leave a lasting mark on their hearts.
A talented craftsman, Claude spent much of his time as a knife maker, skillfully crafting beautiful knife handles from deer antlers. His knives, many of which were given away as cherished gifts, are a testament to his skill, his heart, and his desire to share something special with those he loved.
When not creating with his hands, Claude could often be found in his garden, tending to his flowers with the care and attention that came so naturally to him. He loved sharing pictures of his blooms, always eager to show the beauty he’d cultivated with his own two hands.
But perhaps what defined him most was his unwavering love for Nashville, Tennessee. A true son of the South, Claude would often regale anyone who would listen with stories about his beloved city. Nashville was more than just a place to him; it was a part of his soul. Whether you were a lifelong friend or a passing acquaintance, you could count on Nashville coming up in conversation, as it was always close to his heart.
Claude is survived by his current wife, Brenda (Burton) Hutcherson, who he married in February of 2020; he was a wonderful Stepfather to Keith (Heather) Staggs and Jody (Steven) French; several grandchildren, including Cole (Heidi) Staggs, Christian Bell, Jaina Staggs, Jacob Harmon, Cade Harmon, and Hayden French; and great-grandchildren; Makaiah and Heiko Staggs; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in passing by his father, James Hutcherson; mother Mary (Richardson) Hutcherson; 3 brothers, James Hutcherson, Eddie Hutcherson, and George Hutcherson; and his first wife Joyce Hutcherson that he lost in 2019.
Family and friends may gather Thursday, December 11, 2025 at Elm Ridge Mausoleum North Chapel, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana, 47304 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Service with military honors will take place at 2:00 PM.
