Deborah Susan Shick

Deborah S. (Gutman) Shick, 65, of Muncie, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 30, 2020, at I.U. Health Ball Memorial. Deborah was born Saturday, August 6, 1955, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Herbert and Ruth (Reed) Gutman. She grew up in Fort Wayne and graduated from Bishop Luers High School. Deborah married Glenn Shick and they raised one son, Chad, together.

Deborah worked in Fort Wayne as a billing clerk for Business Equipment Company. After moving to Muncie, she went to work as a food service worker for Delta Middle School. She was fondly referred to as the “lunch lady”. Deborah and Glenn attended Commonway Church in Muncie. Church was very important to them and they supported the church together behind the scenes. Deborah and Glenn lived every moment of every day trusting God.

Deborah loved to go with Glenn to the Great Lakes and watch the freighters go by. She was a lifelong collector of all things Snoopy, and was a huge hockey fan. Her favorite teams were the Fort Wayne Komets and Detroit Red Wings. She enjoyed contemporary Christian music and oldies rock. Deborah’s favorite thing to do, though, was spend time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Eisley. She was dearly loved and will be missed.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Glenn Shick; a son, Chad Shick; brothers, Bill (Cathy) Gutman and John Gutman (Trish Schmidt Endsley); sisters, Nancy (Larry) McClellan, Linda (Mike) Shidler, Barb (Neal) Schaab, and Kathy (Dan) Bireley; and a granddaughter, Eisley Shick.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Ruth Gutman.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Elm Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
