Don was a man of many interests and talents, all of which he pursued with an unrelenting enthusiasm. He loved working with his hands, whether working on his beloved collection of model cars and antique toys, maintaining his 5-acre property, or spending hours tending to his lawn with his mower.
To know Don was to know a man who never quite grew up. His playful spirit was evident in everything he did, from his playful antics with his grandkids—who were the light of his life—to his competitive nature in a game of Aggravation. He found joy in the little things and loved nothing more than making those around him laugh with his stories and jokes.
As a storyteller, Don had a gift for weaving tales that entertained and captivated his listeners, often spicing up his narratives with the humor and charm that was uniquely his.
He was also an accomplished musician, playing both guitar and banjo, often sharing his love of music with family and friends. Whether playing a tune or strumming away during a family gathering, his music was another way he expressed his boundless energy and creativity.
Don had an unyielding work ethic and a rare zest for life. He retired in 2005 from GM after 52 years of hard work and dedication as a Fork Truck Driver. His legacy is not only in the things he left behind—his work on his property, his model cars, his antique toys, and his watches—but in the laughter, stories, and love he shared with everyone he met. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the memories and stories he left behind.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Swartz; son, Rock Swartz; three grandchildren, Ashley, Kasey and Derek; four great-grandchildren, Khloe, Avi, Kat and Ellery; brother, Randy Swartz; and a bonus grandchild, Tori Fry.
Don was preceded in passing by his parents; daughter, Sheila Swartz; and three siblings.
