Donald M. “Don” Campbell, 88, of Muncie passed peacefully at home January 4, 2025 surrounded by family. He was born in New Kensington, PA on April 26, 1936 to Francis Scott and Eleanor May (Sutton) Campbell.
Don attended Arnold High School in Pennsylvania, where he was a multi-sport athlete. He served his country in the United States Marines for 4 years from 1955 to 1959. On April 9, 1960, he married Arlene Mohr. Arlene and Don welcomed their only daughter, Cynthia, in 1962. Don moved to Indiana in 1964 to begin working at Westinghouse. He later transferred to Indiana Bell then AT&T, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. Don enjoyed family time, tinkering around the house, and gardening in the summer.
Don is survived by his wife of 64 years, Arlene (Mohr) Campbell; his daughter Cynthia (Mark) Lombardi; 3 grandsons, Tyler (Leah) Lombardi, Kyle (Natalie) Lombardi, and Chris (Taylor) Lombardi; 2 great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Otis Lombardi; brother, William Campbell, of Pennsylvania; sister, Mary Lou Guckenberger, of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A public visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 11 am until 12 pm, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie, IN 47304. Military honors and a short committal by Fr. Dennis O’Keeffe, will immediately follow the visitation at 12 pm inside the Elm Ridge Memorial Park Mausoleum, after which Don will then be taken to his final resting place, within the cemetery.
