

She was born in Dayton, Ohio, on Monday, September 17, 1928, the daughter of Nelson E. and Dorothy M. (Lincoln) Ohlemacher. Dorothy graduated from Muncie Central High School and attended Ball State University. She married Robert J. Charles in 1949, and he preceded her in death in November of 2000.
Dorothy worked for Marhoefer Packing Company, and then retired in 1992 from Ball State University, after working over twenty years in Dining Services. She was a faithful member of St. Mary Parish in Muncie. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Daughters of Isabella, St. Mary Women’s Association, formerly a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, The Sacristan, Mary Martha Guild, Friendship Circle, Rockin Red Birds, Ball State Sympathy Club, and Peoples Sympathy Club. She could also frequently be found at the St. Vincent DePauw Soup Kitchen.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Craig (Brenda) Charles, Chris Charles, and Brian (Gina) Charles; daughter, Lori (Mark) Dellinger; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and one more on the way; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty one years, Robert; her parents, Nelson and Dorothy Ohlemacher; a brother, Nelson Bud Ohlemacher and his wife, Mary; and two grandsons, Matthew Robert Moore and Alexander Walker.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, September 2, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy will be celebrated Friday, September 3, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2300 West Jackson Street, Muncie, Indiana 47303. Father Christian DeCarlo will officiate. Due to Covid, attendees need to wear a face mask and social distance.
Graveside service will immediately follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park, South Chapel of the Mausoleum.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks for the staff at Morrison Woods. Their care provided to Dorothy during her stay there was very appreciated.
