Samuel F. Shoemaker, 78, of Fairfield, passed away Thursday, March 10 at Mercy Hospital. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Troy Jr., Bill, and Jim Shoemaker; sister, Pearl Rogers and son-in-law Don Powell. Sam is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lois; children, Dale (Missy) Shoemaker, Jill Powell and David (Brandi) Shoemaker; grandchildren, Justin, Brody, Sam and Christina; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Anna, Peyton, Jaxon and Layla as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He served 4 years in the U.S. Navy and was a retired lieutenant for the Hamilton Fire Department as well as a school bus driver for the Fairfield City Schools. Sam was a semi-pro, fast pitch softball player earlier in his life. Sam's family came first throughout the course of his life. The family will receive friends at the Ivey Funeral Home, 2565 Princeton Rd, Hamilton on Monday, March 14 from 6pm until 8pm. Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 15 at 10am with interment following at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Sam's memory be made to a charity of choice.
