Geraldine L. Fisher

Geraldine L. Fisher, 87, passed away at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, after a long battle with Lewy body dementia. She was surrounded by family in her final hours.

Gerry was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. If you were her friend, you had a friend for life.

Gerry was born December 18, 1935, the daughter of Ralph and Violet Waters of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She grew up with her sister, Nancy and brother, Tom.

Gerry attended Fort Wayne Northside, where she met the love of her life, Warren Fisher. After Warren completed his basketball career at Indiana University, they were married on August 25, 1956, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Fifty years later, they celebrated their marriage with family and friends in Muncie, Indiana. They had three sons, Jim, Tom, and Joe.

Gerry started out her career as a dental assistant and ended up being the President of the Indiana Dental Assistants Association. Gerry then took her career to the Muncie legal system as a court reporter with Delaware County Courts before retiring.

After retirement, she enjoyed oil painting and knitting. As a survivor of two bouts of cancer, she also knitted caps and blankets for cancer patients in Muncie. She helped numerous people in Muncie with her time and homemade gifts.

Gerry loved her Colts, Pacers, IU Basketball and the NCAA basketball tournament. Beyond that, she was an avid music lover her entire life. Her love of animals was evident as well.

Her husband, Warren; her parents, Ralph and Violet Waters; brother, Tom Waters and an infant son, Joe Fisher, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sister, Nancy Hoehn; sons, Jim (wife, Pam) Fisher, and Tom Fisher; three grandchildren, Marie Fisher, Grace Fisher, and Sophia Fisher; great-grandson, Oliver Heckert and eight nieces and nephews.

Gerry had a heart of gold and will be sadly missed. She touched so many people’s lives and the family has heard that in so many ways.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2023, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 with Pastor Jerry O’Neal officiating.

Family and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
