Jane Racer

Jane E. Racer, 76, Yorktown, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in her home surrounded by her children. She was born July 18, 1940, in Muncie, the daughter of William J. and Margaret M. (Deeter) Swingley. Jane was active in local 4-H, a talented seamstress and won many awards during her academic years as a Selma Bluebird. She graduated in 1958. Jane was employed by Marsh Supermarkets for many years in the Personnel Department and worked in Human Resources for the City of Muncie. She was also a licensed insurance agent for Farm Bureau and Morris & Galliher. She worked for Olan Mills in the church division and later worked for Meijer.

Attending Girls' State must have piqued her interest in politics. One of her true passions throughout her lifetime was politics. She organized several political campaigns and was recognized for many achievements during the campaign process. Another of her true passions was theatre. She enjoyed being involved with the Muncie Civic Theatre and was a cast member of My Fair Lady and Show Boat.

Survivors include her children, Jill Racer Lewis, Ann (husband Mark) Allen, Jack (wife Sandy) Racer and Andrew D. Racer; two brothers, James W. (wife Sally) Swingley and Duane Swingley; eight grandchildren, Lindsey, Molly, Race, Chloe, Maurissa, Mauranda, Mauriah and Jack "J.D."; four great-grandchildren, Afton, Roman, Aiden and Maya; several nieces; nephews; and cousins. Jane's family would like to extend a special thank you to all those who helped her along this journey including her cousin, Susie Garringer, who comforted her during her last days, and many friends and neighbors who were always there to help.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister-in-law, Linda Swingley.

Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 with Pastor Mark Garringer officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Parker City.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
