Lila L. (Dykes Caldwell) Thompson, 87 Passed from this life, April 29, 2021 at 11:59 pm; under the care of IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital Hospice. She was born in Dykes, Kentucky on March 31, 1934 to Bill and Laura Dykes, the last surviving child of 12. Lila owned and operated Lila’s Hi-Style Beauty Salon in Yorktown, IN for nearly 50 years, retiring in 2016 at 82 only to take care of Norman, her beloved husband of 43 years. She loved Jesus, and Her entire family, helping to rear and be totally involved in All of her grandchildren’s lives even until her passing. She and Norman faithfully attended Riverside United Methodist Church from 1978 until their health began to fail in 2016. They spent their summers at Lake Tippy and Chapman Lake, fishing and boating. Their winters were spent entertaining friends and family, Hosting family meals on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve. Lila was an avid Indiana Pacers fan, watching every game on television for the entire season. She enjoyed Bingo and playing cards with anyone who wanted to play including all of her grandchildren. Survived by: 2 Children- Pamela S Townsend, Muncie and Timothy L Caldwell, Yorktown 4 Grandchildren- Derek E Townsend (Jennifer Preston) Muncie; Ryan J Caldwell (Jesse) Muncie; Michael L Caldwell (Crystal Wicker) Yorktown; and Matthew C Caldwell, Yorktown. 13 Great Grandchildren- Breanna, Benjamin, James, Bridgette, Jonathan, and Mara Townsend; Garrett and Lucas Caldwell; Branden and Jacob Scott; Logan Crumb; Carson and Liberty Wicker. 2 Step Daughters- Cathy Gray (Steve) and Sondra Geirhart, both of Vincennes IN 2 Step Grandchildren- Meredith Dreiman, and Nicholas Prince (Charlene) Clarksville TN 4 Step Great Grandchildren- Keaton Roth, Jordyn and Carson Dreiman, and Madison Prince 2 Sisters-in-law- Barbara Dykes, Somerset KY; and Donna Dykes, Indianapolis IN 1 Brother-in-law- Charles Baugh, Science Hill KY Preceded in death by: Her Husband Norman (Poppy) Thompson, her first husband Eugene Caldwell, Parents Bill and Laura Dykes, her only Granddaughter Adinah L Townsend, and step grandson, Ryan Marsh. 4 Brothers; Lawrence (Ruby) Dykes, Roy (Bessie) Dykes, Oscar Dykes all of Somerset KY area and Clarence Onva Dykes of Indianapolis IN. 7 Sisters- Beulah (Kellan) Phelps, Ivadean (Wesley) Goff, Christine (Donald) Griffith, Arettia (Talmadge) Goff; all of Kentucky; Faye (Almond) Wiggington of Indianapolis, Hulda Baugh and Regina Hyden also of Kentucky. Services will take place at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W Kilgore Ave. Muncie IN 47304. Visitation will begin Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11am, with the Memorial Service to start promptly at 1pm. Graveside Service immediately following. Pastor Keith Turner of Riverside United Methodist Church will officiate. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy, for the family, may be shared at www.elmridgefuneralhome.com. The family requests donations be made in memory of Lila and Norman Thompson, to The Parkinson’s Foundation at www.parkinson.org or the charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, face coverings and social distancing will be required.
