Mary McBride, 68, passed away in Angola, IN, after a courageous battle with MS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick O. McBride; her parents, Clarence and Jane Keirns; her sister, Barbara Brokaw; and niece, Melissa Hayes. She is survived by her sisters, Ann Lebrecht of Lake Gage, and Sara McCormack of Madison, WI, along with her brother-in-law, Michael McBride of Muncie, and step sons Jaysun and Kyle McBride; also numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews survive. Her special relationship with her great niece and nephew, Jane and Matt Hayes, brought her much joy.
Mary graduated eighth in her class of 800 from North Side High School in Fort Wayne in 1966. She graduated magna cum laude from Ball State University with a bachelor's degree in Nursing. She and Patrick lived at various times in Enid, Oklahoma, and Atlanta, GA, but spent most of their years in Muncie. Mary was an RN at Ball Memorial Hospital for over 20 years, working in same day surgery, and later as a diabetes educator. She also worked for Ball State University as a nursing instructor in psychology.
Mary was an avid pro tennis fan, and also loved the Atlanta Braves, IU basketball and Lake Gage. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, and listening to music. She was very civic minded and supported many environmental and local causes over the years.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held on Friday, December 30 from 2-4p at Vera Mae's Bistro, 207 S. Walnut Street, Muncie, IN. Parking is available in the High Street/Jackson Street lot directly behind the bistro. In lieu of flowers, donations to the National MS Society are appreciated.
