Shirley was truly a beautiful person and strong spiritual influence in my life. Along with her husband, Bob, they truly helped keep me on track as a youth and strong in Jehovah's organization. I will always look to them as the couple that made a lasting impact on me, and I will always cherish my friendship with Shirley, especially when I see her awakened refreshed in God's coming New World. This old system is harsh and cold, but Jehovah never lies and I look to that promise with confidence. May Jehovah continue to bless you, Bob and all of your family during this sad occasion. -- (Job 14:14, 15) If a man dies, can he live again? I will wait all the days of my compulsory service Until my relief comes. 15â€¯You will call, and I will answer you. You will long for the work of your hands.


Shirley was a very encouraging and positive person. Liked to see people achieve their best. She had a special place in her heart for young people she always encouraged them to give Jehovah their best as she had done. She was so supportive when my daughter decided to move to Muncie she played a major role in her spiritual progress. We will miss you Shirley but we look forward to your return on a paradise earth. My heart is breaking.  Shirley's beauty both inner and exterior is a rare combination you don't come across often.   She has always been a source of comfort to me throughout the many years I have had the pleasure and priviledge of knowing her.  I will miss very much our wonderful talks and encouraging words of wisdom and love she would always give me.  I will not speak of her in the past tense because she is only at rest and i am confident jehovah will awaken her from her much needed rest very soon!  She was there for me about 30 years ago when I really needed a friend.  Her advice made such a difference in my life.  Something I will always keep close to my heart when I think of her.  My throughts and prayers go out to her loving and devoted husband Bob.  I know Jehovah and the love of your fleshly AND spiritual family will be with you during this very difficult time. Shirley introduced me to Jehovah. She was my cornerstone and shoulder to cry on when I needed it. I am so completely heartbroken right now. I know her suffering is over and she is in Jehovah's memory and I will see her again. This is a very hard loss for anyone who knew her. Shirley Bird is irreplaceable. Much love to Bob 

I didn't know Shirley and Bob that long because I just moved here. But the short time I did have with getting to know her and Bob. I felt the love every time I walked into the Kingdom Hall. If I didn't feel like being there Shirley would always come up to me and my family and fists bump, do you guys need anything, how is everything going. Despite how she was feeling you always felt the love she had for Jehovah. As JK brought out in his prayer Tuesday night she left special spiritual footprints in Muncie South Congregation and everywhere she has been. She indeed has given me the spiritual  hope of making it to Paradise so instead of a fist bump I can give my spiritual friend a big giant bear hug. Song 111 until then I know you are resting. Bob be encouraged;) until we see her again.

We first met Bob and Shirley about five years ago. What immediately impressed us was her courage, candor and spiritual fortitude in dealing with the strenuous demands and special circumstances of her illness. What we also noted was Bob's remarkably kind patience and understanding in his dealings and relationship with her. We could see that they were indeed a very spiritual couple with an exemplary love for Jehovah and each other. During the years since then, they have served as a sterling example for us (and many others also, I'm sure) who have to deal with circumstances similar to theirs. Thank you, again, Shirley for all the kind, insightful and knowledgeable words of encouragement we so dearly needed then. And thank you, Bob for unselfishly letting her share with us the vast trove of pertinent medical knowledge she had accumulated. May Jehovah's great love strengthen you as you cherish her memories.   

Sharing a letter written a month ago: My Dear Sister Shirley, and Brother and Brother Bob. 

I vent had the chance to tell you both
just how much of an inspiration and
example of loyalty and dedication you've
both been to me and by extension, those
with whom I share your loving examples of
true love and commitment to each other
and our God Jehovah as related to us by
Diane. She is so very proud of you both.
Like Diane, I too see, by your loving
example, that rue love between husband
and wife are proven in times such as these
when they're faced with daily health
challenges and decisions such as the ones
you've both been undergoing for all these
years. As I think of you both, I reflect on
years gone by.. the laughter, and even the
tears. Through it all we've been able to
endure as we keep before us Jehovah's
promise. We've grown older now and as we
face the challenges associated with
inherited imperfection, we can gain comfort
in knowing as bebeficiaries of undeserved
kindness and the ransom sacrifice, "The
Best Is Yet To Come"

Bob, I'm truly sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. It's been many years since we've seen each other face to face, but I still have fixed in my mind a loving, compassionate, hard working, spiritual couple. You may not know me, but I remember you from several years back. I am Jim Wagner and Shirley, you brought a good friend, Wilie B. Johnson, on many occasions to see my mother. Willie had worked for my mother for many many years, and Willie became a true friend to our entire family. Thanks to you Shirley, you made it possible for Willie to visit as Willie found it more difficult to come on her own. You were a blessing to both Willie and also to my Mother and I pray for you, your family, and many friends.

We just found out this past weekend that Shirley died.  We were sorry to hear the news and our hearts ache with grief.  We are so thankful for Jehovah's wonderful truths found in his Word the Bible.  It truly gives comfort at this most difficult and painful time.  What we will always remember about you and Shirley is your warm hospitality.
