

Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie; sons John (Kathi) and Jeff (Elizabeth); grandchildren Stephen (Megan) Hamby, Kelly (Christopher) Sharp, Margaret Hamby, Melvin Hamby and Ivan Fisher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Patricia Hamby, and sister, Dixie Fowler.
Larry was born on September 10, 1937, in Highland Park, Michigan. In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he spent six years stationed in San Diego, California, and Japan. In 1959, he married his high school sweetheart and started a family shortly after.
After moving to Murfreesboro in 1969 with his wife and two sons, he opened Ace Sewer Cleaners, which he owned and operated for more than 45 years.
Larry was an active member of Temple Baptist Church, where he previously served as a trustee. A charter member of the Murfreesboro Hot Rod Club, he was the proud collector of several antique cars.
Loved by family, friends and members of the community, Larry will be remembered for his quirky sayings, infectious smile and willingness to help anyone.
The visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 7, from 4–8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home (5350 NW Broad St., Murfreesboro, TN 37129). The funeral will take place on Saturday, August 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, with the burial immediately following. Pastor John Hill will officiate, and grandson Stephen Hamby and friend, Brother Danny Flick, will also speak.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to the Good Shepherd Children’s Home (P.O. Box 519, Murfreesboro, TN 37130).
