Gail Tina McElhannon was born on July 14, 1943 to the late Floyd and Lucille McElhannon, the third of four children. Lucille was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist church after receiving and reading literature. Readily embracing the faith, she transferred these values to her children. As a result, Gail attended Oakwood Academy, where she was mentored by Mrs. Trula Wade (after whom Wade Hall is named).
Gail was a dedicated mother of three children, Zsa Zsa, Troy, and Shyaam. Against the odds, and with hardly any money to support her three kids, she managed to get a college education, and graduated from the University of Laverne. She decided to give back to the community by opening up a boys home, where she did her best to treat every client as her own, even establishing a youth transition program enabling them to continue their growth as behavioral health workers, and transition successfully to adulthood.
As Gail matured in Christ, the Lord pricked her heart to go deeper in her walk with Him. She entered into a closer relationship with the Lord and began to rigorously study the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy. She developed a love for the true historical values of the Adventist faith, embracing the Three Angels’ Messages found in Revelation 14:6-12 . She became a strong soldier for the Lord. With heavenly boldness, she made a ministry out of sharing these truths with others. She was not deterred even after losing her vision, and in fact had even more fervor, and was a more powerful witness. She made it a point to constantly tell others about the Lord. She always carried National Sunday Law books with her everywhere she went, handing them out without reserve. Remarkably, she developed a reputation for “tel-evangelizing”, witnessing to employees at Amazon everyday, and others with whom she came in contact. She would ask these individuals if they knew about the Ten Commandments highlighting 4th commandment (keeping the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH HOLY), telling them about the change by the Papacy and how they could obtain more knowledge. With the Holy Spirit’s leading, she had a very high “success rate”, where people eagerly and attentively listened, and thanked her for the enlightenment.
She often encouraged others to give a testimony of the Lord’s goodness because “we all have something to be thankful for”, and she always encouraged people to get ready for the coming of Jesus Christ, to keep the commandments of God, and work out their own salvation with fear and trembling.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, and beloved sister Barbara. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Zsa Zsa (Darryle) Sanders, and sons Troy (Allahme) Dixon, and Shyaam (Fayth) Butler, eight grandchildren - Dominique, Daryl, Dajuan, Alleyah, Justin, Shyenne, Uriah, BrookLynn, and three great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Ezra and Glory. Her brother Leonard McElhannon, sister Helen Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
